MEC Wavemaker walks away with 3 top prizes at UK Sponsorship Awards

MEC Wavemaker walked away with three top prizes, including the inaugural Branded Content award, at the 23rd UK Sponsorship Awards, held last night in London.

MEC Wavemaker’s campaign for Colgate Sensitive Pro Relief picked up the top honours in the Branded Content category against stiff competition. Research undertaken by Millward Brown proved that this campaign delivered across all key objectives. In addition to positive brand metrix, it also helped the brand increase share of market by 4.3%. Importantly, the high profile nature of this activity led to increased shelf space at Tesco.

Colgate also won in TV Sponsorship with the partnership negotiated by MEC Wakemaker between Colgate Max White and Britain’s Next Top Model. The judges agreed that sophisticated activation across multiple media touchpoints enabled Colgate to engage with its audience in a way that educated consumers on how to use its Max White Toothbrush Plus Whitening Pen. In the process, it created advocates and demonstrated efficacy through content. It also built excitement, thus generating competitor standout.

MEC Wakemaker also picked up the top honour in the Brand Sponsorship – Under £2 million – for its Evian #wimbedonwatch sponsorship. The judges described the partnership as: “A textbook sponsorship, Evian’s partnership with Wimbledon has done a great job driving the brand’s fame and talkability. Social media and PR performances have been strong leading to a lift in sales and purchase intent.” Danone Waters, said the 2016 edition of the #wimblewatch campaign surpassed expectations and was recognised by key retailers.

The UK Sponsorship Awards were held at the London Marriott and were hosted by the comedian and writer Viv Groskup.

This success, just a year after launch, is a testament to the drive and ability of our people. I'm very proud that Wavemaker has been recognised at these important awards and excited for the year ahead."

UK Sponsorship Awards organizer Rosemary Sarginson said: “It was extremely exciting to see so many examples of sponsorship campaigns that build brands, generate social media conversations, create engaging content, drive sales and support life-changing community programmes. I’d like to congratulate all our winners.”
